Man begins 400km journey to raise RM1mil for welfare homes

GEORGE TOWN: Sixty-year-old Penang-born pastor Cheah Chee Moon embarked on a rickshaw journey to Kuala Lumpur today to raise RM1 million for two welfare homes.

He began his 800,000-step adventure at Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang here and is expected to reach Dual Blessings Berhad at Jalan Hujan Emas in Kuala Lumpur on July 7.

The funds raised will be channelled to Eden Handicap Service Centre Berhad and Dual Blessings Berhad.

To kickstart the fund-raising effort, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow contributed RM20,000.

“The rickshaw weighs 60 kilograms. I tried (pulling it) and it is not easy for such a long distance but pulling rickshaws is nothing new to Cheah.

“We hope he is given the strength for his long journey and hopefully, the weather is good,” Chow said today.

Chow flagged off Cheah’s journey as several bicyclists accompanied him until Jetty Raja Tun Uda.

Interested parties may donate to Eden Handicap Service Centre Bhd's CIMB bank account at 8003857542 via cheque or online transfer by indicating “Rickshaw”.
