Former minister James Dawos dies of cancer at 70

KUCHING: Former Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit died at his home at Taman Stutong, Tabuan Jaya here, early today.

He was 70.

A family member said he died at about 1am following a battle with nose cancer.

He leaves behind his wife Datin Christine Dawung Narub and two sons.

The four-term Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament withdrew from contesting in the last general election due to his illness.

Dr James ran for office under the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ticket and first won the Mambong parliamentary seat in 1999.

The constituency was renamed Puncak Borneo after the re-delineation process in 2015.
