877 to receive state honours tomorrow (July 13) in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat heads the list of 877 recipients of state honours in conjunction with the Penang governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas’s 81st birthday tomorrow (July 13).

The 60-year-old Kelantanese, known for being the first woman in the history of the country to assume the chief justice role on May 2, is the sole recipient of the highest honour, the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri, which carries the title “Datuk Seri”.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador and Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, are the two recipients for Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN) which accords the title “Datuk Seri”.

Royal Customs Department deputy director-general (GST), Datuk Paddy Abd Halim is among 12 others to receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which also carries the Datuk Seri title.

An honorary DGPN award will also be conferred to Singaporean activist and former politician Sidek Saniff, who served as a member of parliament for six terms and later rose to be senior minister of state for education and environment.

The other recipient of the DGPN are Pakistan honorary consul-general Datuk Rafique Abdul Karim, former Penang Development Corporation general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar, Datuk Ahmad Rodzi Pawanteh, Datuk Chuah Kim Seah, Datuk Khor Ten Haw @ Khor Teng How, Datuk Lim Cheah Chooi, Datuk Mat Shafie Awang, Datuk Mohamed Fadzill Hassan, Datuk Ooi Teik Heng and Datuk Dr Zainul Azizan Zainul Azizi.

Penang High Court judge Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail is among the six to be conferred the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), which carries the ‘Datuk’ title.

Penang Opposition leader Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor from Umno will be conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which carries the title Datuk, among 50 other recipients.

Romli Ishak, political secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will also be conferred the DSPN title.

Also receiving the DSPN is criminologist P Sundramoorthy of Universiti Sains Malaysia.

A total of 55 people will receive the Darjah Johan Negeri, 35 to receive Bintang Cermelang Negeri, 89 Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji, 278 Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, 320 Pingat Jasa Masyarakat and 29 Pingat Bakti Setia.
