TUARAN: Madsha Mohd Dani has no regrets opting to retire early from the civil service four years ago as he is now a successful entrepreneur of stingless bee honey.
He was with the Agriculture Department when he decided to quit from the service in 2016 to focus on stingless bee rearing.
“Bee rearing is a family business which we started in 2014, but the returns were not good during the early years because I was not able to focus on it until four years ago ,” he said, adding that he now has more than 100 stingless bee nests at his farm in Kampung Baru Selaud here.
Madsha said the stingless bee nests could be harvested within three months, with each nest producing half a kg of honey.
The stingless bee honey from his farm is sold for RM40 per 200 milligrams, he said, adding that the Tuaran Area Farmers Organisation was also helping to market his products.
“I have spent more than RM10,000 since 2014 on my stingless bee farm, which now has more than 100 nests,” he said.
In terms of competition, Madsha said he did not have problems because there were not many people in the district who had ventured into the industry.
He said stingless bee honey had many health benefits, including for treatment of cough, fever, cuts and rashes. - Bernama
