MACHANG: The spirit of unity was evident at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Poey Sit in Pulai Chondong, here, earlier today, as students from various races joined hands in making paper hats to celebrate the National Day.
Held at the school's main hall, the activity involved 220 Year 1 to Year Six students, including Iban and Kadazan children, under the close supervision of senior assistant 1 of administration Ong Soo Yean.
"The students mingle and help each other to make the Merdeka Day hats.
"They are given a card decorated with the bunga raya and Jalur Gemilang, and their task was to cut out the decorations and make it into a paper hat," she added.
Ong said every year, the school held activities to celebrate the
National Day, to inculcate unity among students of various races.
"This year, we decided to organise two programmes. First, the Merdeka Walkathon held this morning, and second the Merdeka Day paper hats," she added.
