Cops record 6 statements on Christian school prayer fiasco

GEORGETOWN: Police have recorded statements from at least six people over allegations that a school here conducted Christian instead of Muslim prayers during its Outstanding Students Award Ceremony recently.

State police chief Datuk T. Narenasagaran said the individuals whose statements were recorded were from the school as well as those who had participated in the ceremony.

He said the investigation was still ongoing and once completed, the matter would be referred to the prosecution unit for further action.

“We have received 10 to 15 reports on the incident in the school.

“The process of recoding statements is still ongoing as we are speaking to all those who attended the ceremony.

“As soon as the investigation is complete we will refer the issue to the prosecution department for further action,” he said during the Penang Heart Safe with Royal Malaysian Police and automatic external defibrillator handover at the state police contingent headquarters here today.

Also present at the event was state Health committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin and state Health director Dr Asmayani Khalib.

It was reported that a police report was lodged by a Muslim group, which accused the Methodist Girls School here of trying to propagate Christianity to Muslims.
