BINTULU: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Nyalau Bintulu was forced to close today after rainwater flooded the compound, affecting 171 pupils.
Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said the area had been experiencing heavy downpour since yesterday evening.
“The water inundated the school compound and cut off road access to the premises. It continued to rise early this morning, hence, posing a risk to the pupils.”
“However, 15 teachers and three other staff remained at the school and will continue to monitor the situation,” he said in a statement, here, today.
“The teachers moved all teaching equipment and school furniture to higher ground, to minimise damage.”
