KUALA LUMPUR: Schools and educational institutions affected by floods and designated as temporary relief centres will resume using the home-based teaching and learning method (PdPR).
The Education Ministry (MoE) said this would be done as schools reopen for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic year starting today.
Schools in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu (Group A) reopen today, while schools in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Putrajaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor (Group B) reopen tomorrow after the weeklong break.
It said the PdPR method can be conducted for all students or only involving certain students at these affected schools.
The respective school would inform the affected parents and guardians about the matter, it said.
"As of Sept 21, six educational institutions comprising five primary schools and a secondary school, are still flooded in Kedah.
"Thirty-six educational institutions under the ministry are still being used as temporary relief centres, including 20 primary schools and 16 secondary schools, with 34 of them being in Kedah, and one each in Penang and Perak.
"A total of 1,056 students are still at the school premises designated as temporary relief centres," the ministry said in a statement.
For students at the school premises designated as temporary evacuation centres, the respective state education department and district education office have mobilised the Smart Support Team (SST) and Academic Support Team (AST) to help students in terms of counseling and learning.
"The Education Ministry will continue to monitor the flood situation, remain vigilant and ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, teachers, and all its staff."
Earlier today, it was reported that the number of flood victims in Kedah climbed to 8,609, with 2,797 families seeking refuge at relief centres as of 8.30am.
