Kelantan floods: Tanah Merah inundated; Sg Golok at warning level

KOTA BARU: Tanah Merah became the second Kelantan district to be hit by flooding today after Kuala Krai was inundated on Thursday night.

As of 8pm, 61 people had been forced from their homes and evacuated to four temporary relief centres (PPS) in the district.

According to the InfoBencanaJKM app, the PPS are at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kelewek; SK Alor Pasir; Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Padang Kijang; and SK Bukit Panau.

In Kuala Krai, the number of flood victims rose to 124 people compared to 29 people this afternoon. They are being housed at SK Chenulang and Pusat Asuhan Kuala Pertang.

Meanwhile, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang has breached its “warning” level of 8 metres, and is now at 8.18 metres, according to the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) website.

Two other rivers have exceeded their “alert” stage – Sungai Golok at Jenob, Tanah Merah has reached 22.16 metres (alert level is 21.5 metres); and Sungai Lebir in Tualang, Kuala Krai is at 27.4 metres (alert level is 27 metres).
