KULAI: The number of visitors to Johor is expected to increase this year after Korean airline Jin Air doubled its Senai to Incheon flight frequency last December.
State Tourism, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung said the airline now operates 14 flights a week.
“I am confident this will help to boost the number of Korean visitors to Johor thus helping us to meet the target of 8.4 million visitors to Johor in 2020,” said Liow.
She said Johor received 167,440 Koreans visitors in 2018, and 156,634 between January and November last year.
She was speaking to the media after accompanying Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal in a ceremony to welcome 160 passengers on board a Jin Air flight at Senai International Airport.
The ceremony was held to mark the beginning of Visit Malaysia Year and Visit Johor Year 2020.
Liow said the state government had intensified the promotion for Visit Johor Year 2020 since last month.
“Since December, we have put up a lot of billboards, banners and buntings as part of our promotional effort.” Liow said this in response to criticism from certain quarters that there was a lack of promotion for Visit Johor Year 2020.
