KOTA BARU: The people should be given an explanation on the reason behind Dr Maszlee Malik’s resignation as Education Minister, said Deputy Pas youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.
He said he believed the people were keen to know the real issue that prompted Maszlee to resign from the post.
"I admitted that l was shocked with the announcement and also realised that any changes in the Cabinet will be decided by Prime Minister.
"But l believe that people deserve an explanation on the real issue that caused Maszlee to resign from the post," he said.
The Pasir Mas MP said such explanation was necessary as it could put a stop to any speculations and allegations made by certain quarters following Maszlee's resignation.
On Thursday, Maszlee resigned as education minister after holding the post for 20 months.

His departure came in the wake of the Education Ministry’s move to introduce Jawi script as part of the Bahasa Malaysia syllabus for primary vernacular schools, and criticism towards the way he handled the controversy surrounding Universiti Malaysia Perlis’ (UniMAP) examination paper for its Ethnic Relations course, which had allegedly promoted Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik as an icon.
His resignation also triggered speculation on potential PH leaders who would fill the vacancy.
Among the names given by political observers was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who is Jerlun MP and Bersatu deputy president.
