KUALA LUMPUR: Penang has recorded a total of 99 influenza cases as of noon today, said state Health Department director Dr Asmayani Khalib.
She said from the 99 cases, 29 individuals are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and are in stable condition.
“Meanwhile, the remaining 70 individuals are receiving outpatient treatment,” she said when contacted, adding that there are 23 influenza clusters.
She also said the state health department would continue to monitor influenza cases by using the influenza-like illnesses (ILI) proxy indicator which was recorded from the selected sentinel clinics in the state.
Asked whether schools in Penang would be closed due to the disease, she said the department would follow-up with the state education department on the matter.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Penang Education Department director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad said he would issue a statement tomorrow after getting the latest information on the disease.
