Health Ministry to probe termination of medical officers at Sibu Hospital

SERDANG: The Health Ministry will conduct a probe to identify the reason why the contracts of four young medical officers who had served at the Sibu Hospital were allegedly not renewed by the government.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad described the woes beleaguering the four medical officers as unfortunate since the ministry is in need of talented and credible workforce.

“It is unfortunate that this has happened. I will immediately investigate this matter to get to the bottom of it.

“What more when we are in need of medical officers with such talent and credible,” told reporters at the Antibiotic Fun Run 2020 jointly organised by the Health and Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministries here today.

Dr Dzulkefly said he would personally look into the cases and that has already been briefed on the case by his officers.

It was reported that Dr Wong Woan Hui and Dr Bong Ing Hui were among the four medical officers on contract at the Sibu Hospital were served with termination letters without any reason given.

Their plight was highlighted by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong.

According to Ching Yong, both Dr Wong and Dr Bong received their termination letters on Nov 20 last year.

Prior to their termination, Dr Wong was with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) department and passed the Part 1 MRCOG (Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) examination in February 2018.

Dr Bong, on the other hand, was with the Paediatric Department for two years and one year as House Officer. She had also passed her MRCP (Paediatric) examination part 1 in 2018.
