KUALA LUMPUR: The Pahang Health Department has denounced claims that one of the patients receiving treatment in Hospital UIA has the dreaded coronavirus.
State Health director Datuk Dr Bahari Tok Muda said checks found that that it was just a normal virus infection and not the dreaded 2019-nCoV originating from Wuhan, China
He also stressed that the patient was a Malaysian and not related to anyone from Wuhan or made a trip to the mainland within two weeks of displaying symptoms.
Bahari said as of Jan 27 there have been no admissions involving any persons infected with the newly discovered virus in Pahang.
He said verifications have been done by the Institute of Medical Research and the National Public Health Laboratory.
Bahari said this in response to a posting by the admin group of ‘Kuantan City’ which had uploaded a statement on an alleged admission of a person with the virus in the hospital on its Facebook page.
He however said that they had released a statement apologising over the posting that caused confusion among netizens.
Bahari urged the public to always be on guard and to not post any false or unverified news as it can cause confusion and panic.
The source of the posting claimed that the news came from his/her cousin working there and the nurses that attended to the infected TNB staff were also under quarantine now.
The posting further warned the public not to take children out especially in crowded areas.
