Mahathir's advice to Trump makes waves on Twitter

KUALA LUMPUR: Some folks on Twitter seemed to have agreed that it was time for US president Donald Trump to quit.

This, in echoing the recent "advice" given by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Trump should resign.

Scott Dworkin, co-founder of @TheDemCoalition, with some 580,000 followers on Twitter, today posted: "BREAKING: Malaysia's Prime Minister says Donald Trump should resign: "I asked him to resign to save America." Other world leaders should do the same."

The tweet has garnered close to 5,000 retweets and over 16,000 likes at press time.

Twitter user @NotoriousRBF replied to Dworkin's tweet by saying,"Malaysia for the win."

Samir, under the Twitter handle @PackersFavreFan, wants the same, saying "I believe we all are in agreement!"

Sandy Kay (@sandykaykay) said," I hope other leaders join this Prime Minister in calling for the occupant to resign, I doubt it will actually work, but it will send a message."

Dr Mahathir, had on Saturday, gave a short advice to Trump which was to resign on the sidelines of the Third Conference of the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds.

The premier briefly told reporters, "Resign", when reporters asked him if he had any advice for Trump.

The US Embassy here subsequently issued a statement expressing disappointment with Dr Mahathir's remark.

The statement read that, "We are disappointed by Prime Minister Mahathir's comments regarding President Trump.

"The Prime Minister's remarks were not in the spirit of the constructive dialogue that has long served as the foundation of the US-Malaysia relations.

"Throughout Malaysia's history, the US-Malaysia partnership has produced outcomes important both regionally and globally as we have cooperated on issues including security, trade, education, public health and the environment," the statement read.
