'Cabinet is dissolved'

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has dissolved the Cabinet on the advice of the interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali said the King had dissolved the Cabinet effective immediately in accordance with Article 43 (5) of the Federal Constitution in line with the resignation of the prime minister.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the cancellation of all appointments of ministerial positions on the advice of the Prime Minister on Feb 24.

“In this respect, all duties of the administration officers and staff (including Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers and political secretaries) will also be dissolved at the same date,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, the King accepted Dr Mahathir's resignation as the prime minister and appointed the latter as the interim prime minister until a new prime minister and Cabinet are appointed and formed.

This was announced after Dr Mahathir handed in his resignation letter at 1pm today.

Dr Mahathir had also resigned from his post as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman.
