KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the Prime Minister's announcement on restricted movement as a preventive measure to address the spread of the Covid-19 virus, Mara (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) today announced that all its administrative centres will restrict operations.
All of Mara's education institutions (IPMA) involving MRSM (53 schools), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (13 branches), Mara Polytechnic colleges (7 branches), Giat Mara (231), Mara Higher Skills Colleges (10), Institut Kemahiran Mara (14), Kolej Professional Mara (6), Kolej Mara (4), German-Malaysia Institute, Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech Mara and the Malaysia-Japan Industrial Institute will defer study sessions from tomorrow (March 18) to March 31.
Study sessions, lectures and industrial training will be temporarily halted and aligned/adjusted at a later date which will be announced in due time.
Mara's commercial premises be it shopping complexes, bazaars, arcades, industrial areas and food courts have been instructed to close and cease operations from tomorrow to March 31 as well, except for entrepreneurs who operate businesses that are allowed to continue operating such as supermarkets, hypermarts, convenience stores, sundry shops, and pharmacies which sell essential items and goods.
All religious activities including mass prayers and Friday prayers at Suraus in IPMAs and Mara commercial premises have also been cancelled and deferred for the time being in line with the Muzakarah Special Committee Meeting that met on March 15.
Even the travels of Mara employees and Mara sponsored students overseas have also been suspended. For Mara sponsored students who have just returned from overseas, they will have to undergo a medical examination and subject themselves to self-quarantine for 14 days, in accordance with the directive issued by the Health Ministry.
Operations at Mara administrative centres such as the Mara headquarters, 14 state Mara offices, 117 Mara district offices including subsidiaries will temporarily cease operations, especially involving contact and engagement with the public from tomorrow till March 31.
