Things Malaysians say when caught ignoring MCO [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Police heard all kind of excuses from Malaysians on the road as they sought to enforce the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Picking up the wife, picking up the girlfriend and visiting family members were among things motorists told the police when stopped at roadblocks in the city last night.

Despite the 14-day MCO being implemented nationwide, some Malaysians remained stubborn and continue to leave their homes for non-urgent matters.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi, said these excuses were heard during operations in Bangsar South and Taman Tun Dr Ismail set up under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Area) 2020.

He said for the time being, no arrest has been made as his men were focusing on educating the public on the importance of adhering to the restriction order.

According to him, apart from roadblocks, the district police also made announcements through speakers from patrol cars.

"We will also make (announcement via speakers) at mosques, suraus and places of interest such as KL Sentral and office buildings.

"Inspection of business premises carried out so far also found that some were still operating as per normal. They have been directed to close down," he said in a statement here today.

Those with questions on the MCO implementation can contact the national operations management centre at hotline 03-8888 2010 or the Brickfields police headquarters 03-22979222.
