KOTA TINGGI: A group of villagers at Kampung Orang Asli Sayong Pinang here have blocked the entrance to their settlement, in line with the Movement Control Order (MCO), announced by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.
One of them, school bus driver Jasni Amat, 34, said the decision to close the road leading to the village was made due to concerns over people entering the area freely despite efforts to break the chain of infection.
“The villagers joined in a gotong-royong to erect the concrete loops on the road yesterday to stop anglers from coming in and out of the area. The closure does not pose difficulties to villagers of the Jakun tribe, as they know all the alternative routes here,” he said.
Jasni said the villagers, however, replaced the loops with four barrels which could be moved to allow the authorities to enter the area for patrols.
“This is to also to allow the Fire and Rescue Department to enter the village in case of emergency,” he said.
The villagers’ action, which went viral on social media, received praise from the public who said they have a higher level of awareness on the MCO, compared to others living in town.
