SAR efforts for missing Orang Asli woman continues, says village chief

GUA MUSANG: The missing of an Orang Asli woman from the Temiar tribe from Kampung Bering Lama, Pos Pasik, since Sept 20 has remained a mystery as search and rescue (SAR) efforts have yielded no clues.

Village chief Anjang Ranget, 60, said despite using sniffer dogs from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's K9 unit, no trace of the 33-year-old Zuzina Abine has been found.

He added that although more than two weeks have passed since Zuzina's disappearance, the SAR effort, led by Orang Asli villagers from nearby areas is still ongoing.

"Over 30 Orang Asli villagers from Kampung Bering, Kampung Pasik and Kuala Wook are continuing to search for Zuzina, even though the SAR efforts have been called off by the police and fire and rescue department.

"The community has also searched as far as the border of Kampung Gawin, Pos Gob, covering approximately 10 kilometres from Kampung Bering, but we have not found any signs, such as slippers, clothes or footprints, so far.

"We will continue searching until she is found. We need to bring her back to her family, no matter her condition," he said when met in Kampung Bering Lama.

Anjang added that they have not yet used the services of a shaman, as no clues or traces of Zuzina have been discovered.

"So far, we have not involved a shaman, as there are no signs of her whereabouts.

"We are concerned about the threat of wild animals, as this area has previously experienced tiger attacks," he said.

Meanwhile, Zuzina's sister, Timah Ason, 37, remains hopeful that her sister will be found, regardless of the circumstances.

"I believe my sister is lost, and I hope she returns home. We are very worried and Zuzina's clothes are the only things that bring us comfort in her absence.

"I also hope the Orang Asli community will not give up and will continue to intensify their search for Zuzina, as they search every day, from morning until evening," she said.

During a visit to the village, Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani said his office would continue to monitor the SAR progress and provide food supplies to the Orang Asli involved in the operation.

"Alhamdulillah, we have provided food supplies for everyone with the cooperation of the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Nenggiri service centre.

"The SAR efforts were initially conducted by the authorities and they have now been taken over by the community's People's Volunteer Corps (Rela), as well as the non-governmental organisation Pelindung Alam Malaysia under the Wildlife and National Parks Department."

It was previously reported that Zuzina, who suffers from epilepsy, had gone missing after leaving her home in Kampung Bering Lama, Pos Pasik on Sept 20.

She is believed to have gone missing around 7am, before her family reported the incident to the police.
