15 healthcare workers infected with Covid-19, one in ICU

KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve Health Ministry's healthcare workers and three others from the private healthcare sector have been infected with the Covid-19 virus as of Friday.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the ministry's staff was currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) on ventilator support.

"This virus knows no boundaries, regardless of your race, religion or wealth status, even more so if you are a healthcare worker at the frontline of this war.

"Our simple message to the public today: Please help us to help you. Stay at home," he said a Facebook post today.

He has earlier urged public who seek medical treatment against concealing truth in regards to contacts and history of their whereabouts.

“We had a few incidents this week where patients concealed their contacts and/or symptoms.

"Travel history and close contact information, for example, those linked to the jemaah tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling Mosque were also not being revealed.

“Only after clinical procedures and treatment were completed that such critical information was disclosed.

“By then, the safety of our healthcare workers and facilities had been jeopardised,” he said in a separate post.
