Nationwide disinfection exercise to contain Covid-19

PUTRAJAYA: The government will be conducting a nationwide disinfection exercise to stop Covid-19 from spreading, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

The disinfection process, said Ismail, would be conducted by the Housing and Local Government Ministry through local councils with the cooperation of the Fire and Rescue Department at the respective districts.

“Priority for the disinfection process will be given to hotspot locations and public areas.

“It will also be carried at People’s Housing Projects (PPR) as well as government departments and agencies.

“The hotspot areas include the two villages (in Simpang Renggam) in Kluang that have been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control (EMC) Order,” he told reporters here today.

Since March 23, Ismail said the Kuala Lumpur City Council had conducted 11 disinfection exercises involving 11 markets under their jurisdiction.

On other developments, Ismail said the government had brought home 2,612 out of 3,162 Malaysians stranded in 60 countries.

The mission to bring home Malaysian citizens who were stranded in Egypt, he said, would be carried out tomorrow using a special flight.

“Malaysians (who are stranded in Egypt) will be flown from Cairo to Brunei enroute to Malaysia,” he said.
