KUALA LUMPUR: A large-scale operation to deep clean Kuala Lumpur began today in a bid to keep the nation's capital free from the Covid-19 virus.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) along with Alam Flora, with a team of 100 personnel, conducted the cleaning, disinfecting and sanitisation works in various parts of the city in an effort to ensure the safety and health of city folk.
KL Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said they have deployed all of their assets and staff to the city and their current focus are high risk areas.
Today, they went to the Sri Petaling area, which has been categorised as Red Zone in the Federal Territories.
"We want to ensure that public places such as halls, mosques, surau, roads, bus stops and streets are free from the virus. We want the people to feel safe when they are outdoors and make them less worried," he told Bernama today.
Nor Hisham added that markets and wholesale markets such as those in Pudu, Taman Cheras, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Salak Selatan, Pekan Sungai Besi, Klang Lama, Sentul and Raja Bot will be disinfected daily.
He added that the operations are conducted by the personnel in accordance with the standard operating procedures stipulated by the Health Ministry.
Nor Hisham added that they have taken measures to ensure that all chemical liquids and protective clothing for their personnel involved in the operations are as per the requirements set by the ministry.
"We want Kuala Lumpur to be free of this virus," he said.
Earlier, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa was present at Sri Petaling to monitor the operations conducted by City Hall's Health Unit.
