KUALA LUMPUR: After successfully producing face shields for healthcare frontliners battling the Covid-19 outbreak, the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) research team has now produced intubation boxes.
UTHM Technical Solutions team project leader Dr Wan Saiful Wan Salim said the main advantage of the box, which the team had come up with, was its ability to protect healthcare personnel from the risk of infection.
He said the product requires simple operation and is easy to clean.
He said the intubation box was designed with the use of ‘solidwork’ and produced via laser cutting, which takes a whole day to complete.
Wan Saiful, who led the team comprising 10 researchers, said a prototype of the intubation box had been meticulously tested by the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom, Hospital in Kluang, Johor.
"We received a positive feedback for improvements which shall be developed in the future," he said.
Project coordinator Professor Madya Dr Ahmad Jais Alimin said the production of this immediate solution could be achieved through the preparation of Minimum Viable Product (MVP) prototype to the hospital for feedback, although the innovation process needed to be repeated.
He said the team was always ready to provide their expert services and ideas for the mission to help healthcare workers curb the Covid-19 pandemic which is tormenting the county.
The team also comprises Professor Dr Shahruddin Mahzan @ Md Zin (patron), Professor Madya Dr. Mustaffa Ibrahim, Dr Omar Mohd Faizan Marwah, Dr Nasuha Saude, Dr Helmy Mustafa El Bakri, Mokhtar Abd Hamid, Ramlee Hussein and Mohamad Rashid Kasmiri.
