KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been reminded to cooperate with the police and adhere to the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, who is Senior Minister (Security Cluster), said the police actions were for the health and safety of the public, and to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
“I ask everyone to please cooperate with the police. Now we’re seeing arrests not only for flouting the MCO, but also for obstructing police from carrying out their duties.
“Don’t try to obstruct them. Please cooperate,” he told a press conference today.
He said although the police have recorded a drop in arrests of 11 per cent from 413 to 368, many had violated the rules, with some being charged under the Penal Code for obstruction of justice.
From the 368 arrests, Ismail Sabri said 309 had been remanded and 59 were granted bail.
“There were even people who rammed through roadblocks. Last night, a police officer was injured when a motorcyclist rammed into the police roadblock,” he said.
He reminded the public that the police only had the best intentions in mind to ensure the safety of all Malaysians.
