KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO), which is in its second phase, will be extended by another two weeks until April 28.
This was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a special televised broadcast today.
“On the advice of the Health Ministry and health experts, the government has decided to extend the MCO for another two weeks, from April 15 until April 28.
“The extension of the MCO will enable healthcare workers to contain the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak among the community.
“The extension is also in accordance with the view of the World Health Organisation (WHO), which urges (Covid-19 affected) countries against lifting movement restrictions immediately,” said Muhyiddin.
The MCO was implemented by the government on March 18 as a measure to contain the highly-infectious coronavirus.
On March 25, Muhyiddin announced that the first phase of the MCO – which ended on March 31 – would be immediately succeeded by a second phase, lasting until Apr 14.
