TM deploys 5G base stations at 2 Covid-19 quarantine centres

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has deployed its 5G base stations at two quarantine centres for Covid-19 located at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang and Health Ministry Training Institute in Sungai Buloh.

With the deployment, frontliners, medical teams as well as patients admitted to the facilities would be able to enjoy enhanced mobile broadband services with 5G connectivity.

Both quarantine centres had been allocated with 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals that deliver up to 500Mbps WiFi connectivity to the users and all WiFi usage charges on the 5G network are also made available free of charge.

This latest Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiative is TM's extension of its recent participation in the 5G Demonstration Project (5GDP) in Langkawi and Subang Jaya.

TM Group CEO Datuk Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin said the company was honoured to have been given the opportunity by the government to deploy its 5G base stations at the two quarantine centres.

“We have allocated 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals at both quarantine centres and we are providing free WiFi access on the 5G network for all users there.

“Besides an extension of the recent 5GDP, this initiative is also part of our corporate responsibility efforts in assisting the government towards curbing the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement, today.

Kamarul said the deployment of the 5G base stations also demonstrated TM’s expertise and capabilities in delivering 5G services to Malaysians nationwide.

“We will continue to explore more ways on how we can help to cushion the impact of this pandemic to the economy and to our customers, employees, frontliners and to those in need; as well as to ensure our services continue without interruption”, he said.

He thanked the government and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for their trust and assistance throughout the process; from planning until deployment, which enabled TM to complete the necessary works at these critical sites within only a few days.

Meanwhile, Mardi Corporation Sdn Bhd CEO Zaidi Shahrim said they were pleased that MAEPS was chosen as one of the sites for the deployment of TM’s 5G base stations.

“We are confident that the enhanced 5G connectivity, provided with the courtesy of TM, will further improve the medical service delivery and this fully supports the government’s various efforts in keeping the Covid-19 at bay and most importantly, breaking the chain.”

Mardi Maeps Sdn Bhd CEO Norafizah Rahman extended their thanks to all government and private agencies who had given their full commitment and support to ensure that Mardi's MAEPS was able to convert the centre into a makeshift hospital within 4 days.

“Special thanks to TM for deploying their 5G base stations here and we look forward to fully utilise the enhanced connectivity for the benefit of all – frontliners, medical and administration teams, as well as patients.” she said.
