Temperature checks for passengers from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak

PUTRAJAYA: All passengers traveling from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak and vice-versa will be subjected to body temperature screening before departing and upon arrival at their respective destinations.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the screening would be conducted using thermal scanners installed at the respective airports.

Thermal scanners, he said, could help the Health Ministry to detect airline passengers with symptoms related to Covid-19 and prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

“Passengers who have fever or suffering from any symptoms (related to Covid-19) may not be encouraged to board the aircraft and proceed to their respective destination.

“This is one of the measures we can introduce and implement at the airport,” Dr Noor Hisham said in his daily press conference on the Covid-19 situation in the country here today.

He was asked to comment on the measures that would be introduced by the ministry to contain the deadly virus following the decision by Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) to resume its flights to Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Miri in limited frequency beginning this week.

In a separate press conference in Kuching today, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas thanked MAB for its decision to reinstate its flights for the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching and Kuala Lumpur-Miri sectors once a week.

Nevertheless, he hoped that other airline companies would also emulate the decision by MAB which has decided to resume its flights between Peninsular Malaysia and cities in the state during the MCO.

He also said he was hoping that the national carrier would also reinstate its flights for the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu and Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu routes.
