Returning Malaysian shipping crew members negative for Covid-19

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian shipping vessel crew members returning home have not tested positive for Covid-19 to date, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said all crew members returning to the country would have to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine as experienced by Malaysian citizens returning from abroad.

“For cruise ships, yachts and so on, we will ensure they are quarantined for 14 days.

“But if it is a flight, we will have to see if the crew had made stops at certain places.

“If they made stops, we will discuss this with the Transport Ministry to look at their activities before we allow them to return home or propose on how they will be quarantined,” he said at a press conference here today.

On bringing home Malaysians living abroad, Dr Noor Hisham said the process involves the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the National Security Council (NSC).

“We need to see if the other nations have imposed a ban on traveling. The government will then have to discuss how to bring them home,” he said.
