Schools will not be reopened for at least two to four weeks [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it will be at least two to four weeks before the ministry even considers proposing for the education and social sector to be allowed to operate again.

In his daily Covid-19 briefing, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry was only proposing for the economic sector to be opened first.

He said the ministry will be monitoring the situation before others such as schools and other social activities were allowed to resume.

"We suggested and proposed that the economic sector be allowed to start first and we will monitor the situation for two to four weeks.

"It is only after that we can decide or propose for the social sector and schools to be reopened," he said, adding that exercising or sporting activities were also included in the standard operating procedure (SOP) the ministry was working on currently.

He said that the Health Ministry was currently working on steps to ease the Movement Control Order (MCO).

"We have to make sure no close contact exercises and sports are allowed. Exercises and sporting activities must follow our guiding principle where there is social distancing, no public gathering, et-cetera.

"These are some of the steps which we are looking into and the details will be announced soon," he said.
