KL mall restaurant workers prep to welcome diners tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Restaurants in the city have begun cleaning the dust off their furniture and making arrangements to welcome dine-in customers tomorrow, as allowed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

At the MidValley Megamall, workers were hard at work to ensure that their eateries comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government.

Before they are allowed to let customers in, restaurants must separate their tables two-metres apart to maintain social distancing, provide hand sanitisers, with the staff wearing face masks at all times.

Checks by the New Straits Times found restaurant workers sanitising and disinfecting tables and chairs at their premises.

They also set their tables two metres away from each other while limiting the numbers of chairs around them.

At restaurants where space is limited with no room to create a two-metre gap, adjacent tables have been marked with an "X" to indicate that it should not be occupied.

At an open space food court area, notices are pasted on tables reminding consumers that they should not be used.

A staff member at a beverage and dessert store said they had earlier in the day adjusted the seating arrangements.

"Thankfully, we don't have a big space so it is not a hassle for us. We could accommodate about 10 people before but with the social distancing regulation, we can only take about 3 to 5 people at a time," he said.

A Chinese restaurant staff said they have placed coloured tape on the floor to mark the two-metre gap.

"It is easier for us to ensure that the tables are not moved and the distance is maintained for the safety of our customers," she said.
