KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to allow congregational prayers at mosques and surau, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
In a special televised address, the Prime Minister said the government will announce its decision to allow congregational prayers once the SOPs are finalised, presented to and approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and other rulers.
"I know many Muslims miss going to the mosque, especially for Friday and tarawih prayers, and the five daily prayers.
"Insya-Allah, we pray for conditions to improve."
Muhyiddin said with the orderly implementation of the SOPs, he believes that mosques and surau in Covid-19 green zones are ready to be opened to congregations.
"The same goes to churches and other houses of worship for Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and others.
"The government will announce specific SOPs to enable our non-Muslim brothers and sisters to worship as well," he added.
