PUTRAJAYA: Beginning June 1, Malaysians returning from abroad and placed under compulsory quarantine will have to pay 50 per cent of the hotel accommodation cost.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this, adding that the government would bear the other half.
As for non-Malaysians including permanent resident pass holders, he said they would be required to pay the full amount of the hotel accommodation cost.
"The National Security Council today has also decided that individuals who wish to return to the country must sign an agreement letter to say that they agree to pay for the hotel accommodation.
"The letter can be obtained from the Embassy of Malaysia's headquarters at their respective countries," said Ismail Sabri during his daily press conference on non-health related issues here today.
The Immigration Department, he said, had also issued instruction to all airline companies to include the agreement letter as a condition before a passenger is allowed to depart and enter the country.
"As I mentioned previously, many permanent resident pass holders who married a Malaysian, and are required to undergo compulsory quarantine, had refused to pay the cost for hotel accommodation.
"Now, we want them to sign the agreement letter before they are allowed to return and enter the country, so that they are clear that they are the ones who will have to bear the cost of the hotel accommodation," he said.
