Greenlight for driving schools, driving tests

KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning Monday, driving schools will be allowed to coach driving students while the Road Transport Department (RTD) will be allowed to test driving candidates.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made during a special ministerial committee meeting on the Conditional Movement Control Order today.

He said the operation hours for both classes and tests will be between 8am and 4pm.

He added the RTD has set a standard operating procedure as stipulated by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council.

These include temperature checks, disinfection of vehicles at all times before and after using, as well as seating arrangements.

"The public is reminded to comply with the instructions issued by adopting new norms such as social distancing and practice of good personal hygiene."

Meanwhile, 471 individuals were compounded for various offences under the Conditional Movement Control Order.

He said out of 300 compounds issued, one was for ziarah (visiting) Aidilfitri, while the remaining compounds were issued at public areas, including roadblocks.

"The police also arrested 114 individuals, remanding 108 of them and issuing police bail to six for breaching various rules under the CMCO."

Ismail Sabri added the police conducted 147 roadblocks and inspected 240,268 vehicles yesterday.

He said the special task force on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance also conducted 71,830 checks nationwide at various premises, namely supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, public markets, and places of worship.
