Old folks home in Kuala Selangor is latest Covid-19 cluster

PUTRAJAYA: An old folks home in Kuala Selangor has become the latest Covid-19 cluster, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

He said the Health Ministry had detected three cases at the old folks home so far.

The first two cases, he said, were reported on May 17 during an active case detection exercise and the said old folks home was one of the targeted groups.

"Twelve workers and 26 residents were screened and only two residents tested positive.

"After almost a month, a third case was reported when the patient was admitted to the Tanjung Karang Hospital for Severe Acute Respiratory Illness on June 13 and he was tested (for Covid-19). This was his second test. He was tested negative during the first test.

"Active case detection is ongoing and prevention measures such as disinfecting activities are being undertaken," he said at the Covid-19 press conference.

On separate matter, Dr Hisham said the ministry had identified 31 people who had had close contact with the Setapak Pakistani barber.

"Initially we have said 40 people had close contact with him, but our investigation only confirmed 31 who had close contact with the barber.

"The ministry has screened all of them, 29 have tested negative and another two are still waiting for their results. So we don't have barbershop cluster, only one is Covid-19 positive," he said.
