KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) hopes that more gig employees will benefit from the Penjana Economic Recovery Plan (PenjanaGig), which opened for registration from yesterday to Dec 31, 2021. PenjanaGig provides social safety protection through matching grants for gig economy platforms.
Socso chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said gig economy platforms were encouraged to participate in the scheme as their workers were exposed to hazards in the course of their work.
He said according to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, 28,425 gig economy workers had registered with Socso since Jan 1, and the figure represented seven per cent of the 400,000 people involved in the gig economy.
Azman said under PenjanaGig, gig workers would be protected under Plan Two of the Socso Self Employment Social Security Scheme with a yearly RM232.80 contribution given free for one year.
Gig service providers can register via gig.perkeso.gov.my or visit www.perkeso.gov.my, call 1-300-22-8000 or email perkeso@ perkeso.gov.my for information.
