PUTRAJAYA: The country's largest and deadliest Covid-19 cluster, the Sri Petaling 'tabligh' gathering cluster, has officially ended.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cluster was first detected on March 11 and infected a total of 3,375 individuals who attended the four-day tabligh gathering held at the Seri Petaling Mosque, as well as their family members.
He said the positive cases reported from the cluster were detected a week after the gathering had ended; namely Case 131 and 135.
"As of July 8, a total 42,023 samples were taken from the cluster, with 3,375 individuals testing positive for Covid-19 (38.9 per cent).
"A total of 3,341 individuals have recovered while 34 deaths were recorded from the cluster," he told a press conference today.
On a related development, Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia registered three new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total cumulative cases in the country to 8,677, with active case at 70.
He said the all new cases were imported ones involving Malaysians.
"Five more patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals today, bringing the current rate of recoveries at 8,486 or 97.8 per cent of the total cases."
He said two patients are being treated in the intensive care unit, with one placed on ventilator support.
"No fatalities from the virus were reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) as at noon today, keeping the death toll at 121 (1.39 per cent)."
