KUALA LUMPUR: Bangladeshi Md Rayhan Kabir who was detained by the Immigration Department on Friday evening will be deported and blacklisted from entering Malaysia.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the 25-year-old man was picked up by a Putrajaya operation intelligence unit team in Setapak at 5.45pm yesterday.
"The arrest was the outcome of two weeks continuous tracking. I would like congratulate all those involved for their hard work and commitment.
"The Bangladeshi man will be deported and will be blacklisted from entering Malaysia," he said in a statement.
Rayhan was nabbed by the department at his alleged "hideout" at a condominium in Jalan Pahang.
It was reported that the department had sought cooperation from the public to locate the man to facilitate an investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
On July 3, international news agency Al Jazeera aired a documentary titled "Locked Up in Malaysia's Lockdown" which alleged mistreatment of illegal immigrants in Malaysia during the process of tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rayhan, who was featured in the video, made several claims of immigrants being mistreated.
