MCO may return if Covid-19 cases climb to three digits

KOTA BHARU: The government would consider re-enforcing the Movement Control Order (MCO) if the daily number of Covid-19 cases reaches three digits.

Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said if the cases continue to climb, the government would have no choice but to enforce the MCO again, limiting the people's movement.

"Positive cases have increased four days in a row. The report from the Health Ministry is that cases are increasing due to our complacency.

"We forget to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) hence why the increase in the number of positive cases.

"I hope that we are not too late and the SOP for Hari Raya Aidiladha will be announced tomorrow," he said at a press conference after visiting the veteran armies at the Royal Malaysian Army in Wakaf Mek Zainab, here, today.

Ismail Sabri said interstate travel is still allowed unless there is another announcement to the contrary tomorrow.

He also reminded the public to heed the the SOPs set by the government and do not rely primarily on the security team.

"All of us should be the frontliners and remind our families to follow the SOPs.

"What concerns us now is that there might not be social during the slaughtering procedure and the gathering ceremony afterwards during the coming Aidiladha," he said, adding that the country's borders remain closed.
