KUCHING: All Malaysians flying into Sarawak from elsewhere in the country are required to undergo mandatory quarantine at designated hotels at their final destination in the state.
Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the state Disaster Management Committee chairman, said the requirement will be in force from Aug 1 to 14.
"A sample (from all entering Sarawak) will be collected on the second day (of their quarantine).
"They will only be allowed to return home if the result of their polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test shows that they are negative for the virus," said Uggah in a statement, today.
He added that the committee is also looking into implementing stricter measures following a rise of Covid-19 cases in the state, especially in Kuching, over the past two weeks.
The measures, said Uggah, include stricter inter-district movement controls and shorter operating hours for business premises.
Other strategies being looked into are reducing the number of flights arriving and departing from Sarawak.
"During a special meeting convened today, chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg, the latest developments involving Covid-19 cases in Kuching and Samarahan were noted.
"Hence, several actions will be taken to arrest the spread of Covid-19 in the state," he added.
