Primary school pupil among active Covid-19 cases in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A school student was among four individuals confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 on July 27 in Sabah.

Sabah Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the pupil, referred to as the 389th case, was currently being treated at the Likas Women and Children's Hospital.

She noted all the student's contacts had been identified to undergo screening.

"Samples from the household and classroom contacts had been taken. All contacts are ordered to undergo quarantine.

"JKNS advises parents not to send their children to school if they are not feeling well, but instead bring them to a clinic for treatment," she said in a statement today.

Rundi urged parents to ensure that their children practice the new normal in schools such as social distancing, avoiding crowded places, using face masks and washing hands.

On Monday, a message went viral over social media stating that a pupil from a primary school in Inanam was found to be Covid-19 positive after seeking treatment from a health clinic.

Rundi noted three cases, including the pupil, were categorised as local transmission, while another was categorised as import case.

The four new cases on July 27 were recorded in Kota Kinabalu (2) and Penampang (2).

Yesterday, Sabah recorded three new cases of Covid-19 infection, bringing the tally to 392 confirmed cases.

The new positive infection was each recorded in Lahad Datu, Papar, and Penampang.

Of the 392 positive cases, 11 remain active, 374 cases have recovered, and seven others died.
