13 pupils from Muar religious primary school down with food poisoning

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 13 pupils from the Muar integrated religious primary school suffered from stomach pain, believed to be due to food poisoning yesterday.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the pupils suffered from food poisoning after eating food prepared at the school canteen.

"Those who suffered from food poisoning were from standard one to standard six and have received treatment at government clinics and hospitals, including one or two at private hospitals.

"They did not have severe symptoms, none were admitted to the ward. Each of them returned home after receiving treatment," he told reporters outside the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at the Sultan Ismail Building, yesterday.

He said district health officers had conducted an inspection at the school canteen this morning and food samples had been taken and sent to the laboratory for testing and the results of the food samples would be known within a week.

"The district health office has ordered the canteen to be temporarily closed for cleaning works for two weeks. After the cleaning work is carried out, the district health officer will conduct an investigation and if satisfied, allow the canteen to operate," he said. – BERNAMA
