KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman today announced that he has obtained a simple majority to form a new state government.
Musa said he is leading a new coalition to take over the current Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan)-led state government.
The Sungai Sibuga assemblyman also said the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin has asked him to present declaration letters to confirm that he has the support of elected representatives.
Speaking to reporters at his residence today, Musa said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and political secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Nardin Awang have also a made courtesy call to Tun Juhar this morning.
The courtesy call, he said, was to inform that a new coalition that supports Perikatan Nasional under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has obtained the majority support to form a new state government.
Musa said he had received declaration letters from elected representatives who confirmed their stand to support the new coalition under his leadership.
He, however, did not state the name of the new coalition.
"Moving forward, the new state government coalition will endeavour to improve and produce better policies to bring Sabah out of this uncertain economic condition due to Warisan's weakness, including tackling the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Together with the assistance of the federal government, I believe we will together be able to face challenges, improve the economy, create opportunities and improve the community's livelihood.
"I'd like to thank all parties that have consistently supported and trusted me. I don't expect anything but full commitment and dedication of all elected representatives," said Musa.
At the press conference, Musa was accompanied by several assemblymen including those from the Warisan-PH-Upko led state government.
Among the current state government elected representatives present were Warisan elected representatives Datuk Hamisah Samad (Tanjung Batu), Datuk Osman Jamal (Balung), Datuk Bolkiah Ismail (Pitas), Datuk Masiung Banah (Kuamut), and Datuk Muis Picho (Sebatik).
Also present were Inanam assemblyman Kenny Chua of Sabah PKR, Ronnie Loh of Sabah DAP, and Paginatan assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko).
