Spot-the-pink-tag catches another quarantine flouter

BUTTERWORTH: Photos of a woman wearing the pink wristband indicating that she is under home quarantine for Covid-19, have been making rounds on social media since this morning.

In the photos, the woman was seen lining up outside a bank at Jalan Ong Yi How, here.

The post spread like wildfire when netizens raised concerns over the threat over public health and safety issues since it was not sure if she tested positive or otherwise.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police had obtained the 25-year-old woman's details following investigation.

He said the woman was a Person Under Surveillance (PUS) and had gone for the first Covid-19 test as soon as she returned from Thailand. The result came back negative.

"She underwent a second Covid-19 test yesterday and the result also came back negative.

"She was supposed to complete her Home Surveillance Order (HSO) today," he said.

Noorzainy said acting on the information and complaint, police went to the bank to investigate.

From interviews with the bank employees, he said the woman had gone to the bank to do money transaction but was prevented from doing so by the security guard. She was also not allowed to enter inside the premises.

"After stopping the woman from entering, the security guard also alerted the bank manager. Before the bank manager could attend to the woman, she had fled the scene.

"We then went through the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera recording to identify the woman," he added.

Noorzainy said the photos which went viral had caused uneasiness among the people in the surrounding areas.

He urged people who experienced a similar situation to lodge a police report for quick action to be taken and reminded PUS to be responsible by abiding by the Health Ministry's order during the 14-day quarantine period.
