KUALA LUMPUR: Casualties in the hospitality sector caused by Covid-19 and other factors continue to rise, with the latest one located down south.
Johor Baru's The Puteri Pacific (formerly known as The Puteri Pan Pacific) is holding a closing ceremony on Aug 30, after it had been welcoming guests from all over the world since 1991.
The four-star hotel with 500 rooms is connected to the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, and located on Jalan Abdullah Ibrahim in the city centre.
The New Straits Times sighted an invitation to its current and ex-staff to attend the ceremony on Sunday at the hotel's main lobby.
"Always and Forever in our Hearts, 1991-2020" was inscribed on the invitation card.
In 2005, the management of the then Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel, was reportedly taken back by its owners, the state-owned Johor Corporation (JCorp) and was merged with the convention centre.
Both properties then came under the management of Puteri Hotels Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of JCorp.
JCorp is synonymous with leading brands like Kulim plantation, KPJ hospitals, KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants, Bandar Datuk Onn, Tanjung Langsat Port, Angry Birds Activity Park, Menara KOMTAR, Menara JLand, KOMTAR JBCC, Larkin Sentral, the Sultan Iskandar Mosque in Bandar Datuk Onn, KPJ Healthcare University College, Klinik Waqaf An-Nur and the JCORP logo which adorns the football jersey sleeves of the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) football team.
On its website, JCorp states that its hospitality business has several properties under its purview and these include The Puteri Pacific Johor Baru and Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
