Pahang MCA forms committee to safeguard farmers' needs

KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang MCA has formed a committee aimed at safeguarding the rights of farmers in the state as well as to help tackle the problems they face.

The party's state State Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Hoh Khai Mun said there were various issues plaguing farmers in Pahang involving agricultural produce such as Cameron Highlands' vegetables and flowers, Bentong ginger, birds' nest, as well as the most recent reclamation of land used by durian farmers in Raub.

A meeting was held which then led to the formation of the committee to tackle such issues effectively and comprehensively.

Also present was MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

"We felt that the Pahang state government would have better success in resolving disputes if

better communication had been established between stakeholders through other means.

"In view of the continued escalation of this recent issue, we have decided to form this body to

more efficiently negotiate with the Pahang state government to formulate a more well-rounded

solution," he said in a statement today.
