SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is encouraging people to set up trade in front of their homes with the introduction of a temporary licence for this purpose.
State Entrepreneur, Rural, Village and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the decision to issue such temporary licences was due to the many people involved in such businesses to supplement their income.
"We want to facilitate the method and help the rakyat who want to set up businesses in front of their homes. We want to encourage them to have a licensed business venture, and conduct their business in the correct way.
"However, traders must follow certain conditions. Among them is the need for a trader to obtain an anti-typhoid shot and to maintain cleanliness at their respective premises," she said when contacted today.
Rodziah said only take aways were allowed at such premises, and traders were prohibited from placing tables and chairs for dine-in purposes for customers.
She said issuing such temporary licences would help the state government in terms of statistics and licensed traders records.
"The application (process) for these licences will be easier and each licence is valid for a year. However, traders must re-new their licence once every three months.
"If the trader still wishes to continue the business after a year, we will place them at a suitable location."
Rodziah said applications for the licences could be made at the traders' respective local authority. The opening date for applications would soon be announced by the state Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee.
She said traders would likely be able to begin using the licence starting next year.
