KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Malaysian Inspection and Quarantine Services (MAQIS) seized 2,376kg of tainted broccoli from China worth almost RM16,000 at the West Port last Tuesday.
Selangor MAQIS director Dr Tarmisal Alimin said in a statement that the imported broccoli was recovered during an operation, and the items were suspected to be mouldy.
"The items weigh a total of 2,376 kg with a trade value of RM15,684.46. It was seized and the case is being investigated under the Section 14 (a), Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
"Those convicted can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed up to six years or both," he said, adding that the seizure was a result of regular inspections conducted by MAQIS.
