JOHOR BARU: The Johor police disposed 989.21 kg and 7,479.9 litres of various seized drugs this year, valued at RM68.88 million.
This marks a significant rise compared to last year's seized drugs worth RM5.43 million.
The disposal involved drugs seized in connection with 6,630 solved cases between 2000 and last year.
Johor Police Chief Datuk M. Kumar said compared to last year, RM5.43 million worth of drugs linked to 3,214 cases were disposed after the court charges were resolved.
"However, this year's disposal is a larger amount as there are 322.13 kg of drugs and 1,562.6 litres of liquid narcotics," he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here today.
Police disposed various narcotics, including heroin, cannabis, ketamine, methamphetamine, MDMA and ketum leaves.
All substances slated for destruction had already gone through the full legal process, including prosecution and conviction.
Everything set for destruction today has been fully processed through the courts, and there are no further legal hurdles, he said.
The disposal process will take place in Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan at a cost of RM73,000 under tight security.
He said Johor's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remains committed to eradicating drug distribution and abuse within the state.
"We will continue our combat against trafficking, drug abuse, addiction and distribution.
"The public are urged to continue alerting police with information on any suspected drug-related activities in their communities," he added.
Also present at the press conference was a representative from Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd, Sharifah Noorul Aini Syed Abdullah.
