PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 71 new Covid-19 cases today, 63 of which were detected in three clusters in Sabah, four in a cluster in Kedah and two symptomatic patients in Selangor.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 69 cases are local transmissions consisting of 43 Malaysian patients and 26 non-citizens.
The two imported cases were patients who had contracted the virus in Singapore, which was reported in Johor and Indonesia where one case was discovered in Selangor involving an illegal foreigner, he said.
In Sabah, Dr Noor Hisham said there were an additional 47 cases in the Bangau Bangau Cluster with 32 Malaysians and 15 foreigners. There are 10 cases from the Laut Cluster where all patients are foreigners and one from the Benteng LD Cluster involving a Malaysian.
"There are two hospital admission cases involving a Malaysian and a non-citizen; one screening case involving a Malaysian who was referred to Tawau Hospital; one pre-procedure screening case in Semporna Hospital involving a Malaysian; and a symptomatic local patient who was screened at a medical centre and now admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
"In Kedah, there are four cases in the Sungai Cluster where all are locals. In Selangor, there are two cases involving locals who were screened and had just returned from Semporna in Sabah," he said.
The cumulative positive cases in the country stands at 10,576 since the pandemic struck the country while infectivity cases were 777.
Dr Noor Hisham said six patients are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit where two patients require respiratory assistance.
He added that 64 patients had recovered from the infection today, bringing the total to 9,666.
There are no new deaths reported and fatalities remain at 133.
